Keynote speaker, Mr. David Ang, Executive Director of Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) and Secretary General & Treasurer of World Federation of Personnel Management Associations (WFPMA) will be addressing issues surrounding The Future of HR, and in specifics, the key competencies and capabilities required of HR and business leaders.
13 September, Keynote Session:
The Future of HR ¨C HR Leadership, Competencies and Roadmaps by Mr. David Ang
This workshop seeks to address the development of HR, its leadership and strategic role, and its needed competencies and roadmaps.
The last 10 years have seen dramatic changes in the perception and interpretation of HR by corporate leaders. In the past, employees were traditionally called labour, one of the three factors of production. Managing them was part and parcel of what personnel management was about - hiring, firing and paper processing. It was considered a straightforward job of allocating tasks to people, handling out paychecks promptly, and dealings with the union if disputes arose. |
 |
With economic restructuring and globalisation, the increasing emphasis on people development, workforce competencies and continued employability catapulted HR practitioners to move with the times, and assert influence in organisations.
And understandably, the transition of the name personnel management to human capital management also signifies a transformation of the nature of HR, from reactive to proactive role, administrative to strategic function and the strategic perspective from a backroom to a boardroom. |
In today¡¯s knowledge economy, Human Capital means precisely what it implies. The much talked about knowledge economy means that skills, abilities and expertise, collectively called human capital, are going to be the key factors in determining economic competitiveness in the future.
